my work
CREATING SPACE for change
Black. Woman. Christian. Zimbabwean. Diasporic. Poet. Psychologist.
Who I am finds its way into all the work I do, especially these aspects of my identity. “Psychologist” is not the least of them, but everything that comes before it shapes the kind of psychologist I am — one deeply attuned to language, meaning, power, and context. I am drawn to origin stories and often listen for what is not being said — and what it costs. I believe that the right metaphor can make a thing make sense and I often find myself looking for it.
At the heart of it, my work is about staying in conversation. That is, bringing people into conversation with themselves, with each other, and with the difficult things that go unnamed. These conversations take different forms: therapy, spoken word poetry, workshops, and creative collaborations. Woven through all of them, is my belief in the power of story, especially the ones we tell ourselves. They shape our realities and who we get to be within them.
CREATING SPACE FOR CHANGE
Our stories can be rewritten. If we create space.
TESTIMONIALS
“Therapy with Dr Dedani gave me the tools to navigate difficult moments, understand my emotions on a deeper level, and more importantly, connect properly with myself. The shift in my mindset has had such a positive impact on my life.
Not only do I feel far more secure in who I am, but my life is also reflecting the positive shift. I can’t recommend Dr Dedani enough!!”

“Whether through carefully crafted prose or during captivating conversations, you can expect Dedani to bring a unique blend of thoughtfulness and raw honesty.
We are grateful for her open-hearted approach during her time filming with us. As a result, we have seen the responses of many who have felt truly heard and seen for the first time.”
