HOW I WORK

I am convinced that people make sense. In context. If you listen closely to a person’s story, you begin to hear the subtle and often sophisticated ways in which their mind and body can become organised around survival in the parts of their lives that demand more than they have available. It may be a relationship, a traumatic event, a life change or a deep fear.

The patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding that form around these demands and experiences tend to have a logic to them, even if it is not immediately clear, or helpful. And that logic can be understood. You may feel stuck, unable to move around a difficulty that feels at the centre of your life. It might be that your efforts to create some kind of safety in spite of it, create shame, self-criticism or isolation instead. You may then come to feel that you, or your experiences, make no sense at all.

My aim is to create space for the kind of conversations that help you understand what is driving your distress, how it is maintained, and what change might look like. As an HCPC registered counselling psychologist with over ten years of experience in NHS and private healthcare settings, my work is integrative and formulation-led, drawing from cognitive behavioural therapy, compassion-focused therapy, trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches, and psychodynamic thinking.

In practice, this means therapy with me is relational, collaborative, and focused on helping you come into a clearer, more compassionare understanding of yourself, so that change becomes possible. From there, you can start to organise around what matters most to you. This may involve us taking a practical approach to change. At other times, it may mean staying with a feeling, making sense of a past experience or mapping a pattern to understand why it keeps repeating.

It does make sense. Together, we can understand how, and create change.
